Businesses operating gambling-type arcade games in Texarkana, Ark., may soon face a new fee on their machines that could increase their costs by $1,000 a year.

A permit fee of $5 is collected on each machine, but the city is poised to adopt a state statute requiring a $500 license for businesses that have three or fewer “amusement machines.” Having four machines or more would net $1,000.

The city’s Board of Directors tabled adopting the ordinance Monday night when members were left puzzled by several points of the ordinance.
