As the sun went down Sunday the churchyard filled with families and music for the First Baptist Church of Texarkana’s Hometown American Celebration.

Thousands attended the event at the church with even more people gathered at surrounding businesses to watch the fireworks.

“I think it’s a great crowd and weather,” said Down Howren, music minister for FBC.

Howren worked to organize the event over the past six months to include a salute to the veterans and a children’s parade along with all the great music.
