The cause of a two-building fire early Monday at the corner of Whitaker and Nolthenius streets is still under investigation, said Capt. Chris Black of the Texarkana, Texas, Fire Department.

“It was a house with apartments behind it; both buildings were lost,” said Black.

The fire was called in at 4:30 a.m. Monday and fire department crews were still bulldozing and putting out portions of the fire until about 11:30 a.m., Black said.

Only one man is believed to have lived there and he was not home when the fire broke out, Black said.
