Abandoned horses to find new homes

Owner died last year and animals were forgotten

Two horses and a colt, abandoned for at least five months, appeared to be happy when horse trainer David Bright loaded them into his trailer Wednesday afternoon.

The horses had been wandering around overgrown land near Miller County Road 511 in the southeast area of the county since at least February, said Dixie Wilson, president of the Artex Animal Welfare Association.

She said one of the residents reported seeing some of the horses at least a year ago. One was hit by a car on Arkansas Highway 296 and died of its injuries Feb. 1, according to a Miller County Sheriff’s ...
