The Texarkana, Ark., Police Department will increase patrols throughout the holiday weekend for increased DWI and fireworks enforcement.

This year, Independence Day falls on a Friday, making the most popular summer holiday a three-day weekend and one that police hope will be enjoyable and safe for people celebrating in the city.

“The city’s fireworks ordinance will be strictly enforced and there will be no tolerance,” said Kristi Mitchell, TAPD public information officer.

It is illegal to set off fireworks inside the city limits.
