China woes dampen fireworks sales

A few local retailers feeling the fizzle

Warehouse explosions and port closures in China have caused a shortage of fireworks in America, and while some local retailers are feeling the blow, others say it has not really affected them.

“It’s affected us a great deal,” said Billy Dalton, general manager of State Line Fireworks on U.S. Highway 82. “If we had a bigger supply, we could have made a killin’ this year.”

Dalton said security for the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing has stranded containers of fireworks at ports.
