Area’s historic buildings benefit from state preservation grants

The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program has committed more than $100,000 in grants for restoration of area buildings.

The Howard County and Little River County courthouses and the Texarkana Municipal Auditorium Building will undergo restoration projects financed by the AHPP grants.

Little River County Judge Clayton Castleman said the $65,000 grant they received will go to replace the metal gutters on the east side of the building. Because the building is listed on the state’s historic registry, repairs and changes to the exterior must meet certain guidelines.
