A tripped breaker in an electrical substation left more than 2,400 customers without power Friday in Texarkana.

Scott McCloud, with AEP/Southwestern Electric Power Co., said the technical failure occurred just after 3:30 p.m., when a snake crawled into the line and burned out 2,000 feet of wire near Texarkana Regional Airport.

McCloud said the majority of customers had power within an hour, but at 8 p.m. five customers in Texarkana, Ark., still remained in the dark.

Electricity was expected to be restored to those residents around midnight.
