BOSSIER CITY, La.—Barksdale Air Force Base will host its annual luncheon for World War II veterans at noon Aug. 16 on the base.

Air Force Col. Bob Wheeler, commander of the Second Bomber Wing, will be the featured speaker.

The luncheon will include gifts for the veterans, such as World War II coins, caps, T-shirts and necklaces for their spouses.

Of the more than 16 million American men and women who served in the war, 416,800 died in combat, 670,845 were wounded, 78,733 went missing in action and 124,079 were taken prisoner of war. Today, fewer than 2.8 mi...
