An Ashdown, Ark., man transporting about 20,000 domestic honeybees in the back of his pickup died when the vehicle crashed Wednesday about 9:15 a.m. on Arkansas Highway 32 near Ashdown.

Troy Bowen, 66, of Jack’s Isle east of Ashdown, was pronounced dead at the scene about 9:25 a.m. by Little River County Coroner Jason Markle.

Bowen was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup westbound carrying two boxes containing the bees, said Arkansas State Police Cpl. Jamie Gravier.

The truck veered off the roadway and hit a tree about 1/10 mile east of Ashdown.
