Reducing the chances that you will become a victim of a violent crime may be a matter of learning and practicing a series of safety tips.

The Texarkana, Ark., Police Department issued these tips following the sexual assault Friday of a woman who was followed home from a Texarkana, Ark., business and raped by a man.

“When approaching and leaving your vehicle, be aware of your surroundings,” said Officer Kristi Mitchell, TAPD spokeswoman.
