Tennessee couple fined for mistreating horses

A Memphis, Tenn., couple charged with cruelty to animals after they were caught transporting a trailer full of malnourished horses through town have pled guilty.

Emmons Booth, 64, and Betty Blackburn, 77, of Memphis, Tenn., were arrested and 11 horses seized April 29 after a tire store manager noticed the animals were in distress and stalled the couple until police arrived.

Booth and Blackburn recently pleaded guilty to 11 counts of cruelty to animals in transportation, said Miller County District Court Clerk Wanda Davis.
