A 22-year-old New Boston, Texas, man was taken to a local hospital after the car he was riding in struck a tree early Sunday off U.S. Highway 59 South.

Justin Petty was taken by LifeNet Ambulance Service to Wadley Regional Medical Center after the 12:05 a.m. wreck. His injuries reportedly were not life-threatening.

Petty was a front-seat passenger in a red Mercury Sable driven by Michael Bishop, 33, of Texarkana, Texas. The Sable was heading south to Atlanta, Texas, from Texarkana, Bishop said.

Bishop also said he had borrowed his girlfriend’s car.
