Brief Beauty: Rare plant stops traffic
![]() Staff photo by Tanner Spendley After driving by 413 W. 27th St. several days in a row, Jackie Robinson decided to stop and take a picture of a blue agave in full bloom. The plant, stretching almost 20 feet high, has become an attraction for motorists, many of whom have stopped to get a better look or take pictures. Generally, agaves begin to die soon after reaching peak bloom. It is dying. Also known as a century cactus and century plant, it holds clumps and bunches of blooms, offering them to the sun and declaring its pride to all who pass by. But its glory days will soon come to an end. “...
