A Texarkana man who pleaded guilty Monday to burglary and indecency with a child will spend the next five years in a Texas prison.

Derrick Kyle Garton, 22, appeared with his attorney, Danny Cook of Texarkana, before Bowie County District Judge Ralph Burgess Monday afternoon.

Burgess sentenced Garton to serve five years for burglary and two years for indecency with a child. The sentences will run concurrently. A second count of indecency with a child was dismissed by prosecutors with the District Attorney’s Office as part of a plea agreement.
