Reopened murder shocks family

Brother, sister plead innocent in recent Nashville case

Herbert Hicks’ divorce was scheduled to be final Oct. 27, 1973.

But the night before, at 11 p.m., he was killed by a sniper, police said.

According to reports of the incident, Hicks was standing under the front porch light at his Texarkana home—No. 19 Robin Road. As he was putting the key into the door lock, he was struck by a bullet fired from a deer rifle about a block away.

His sister, Debbie Horton, now of Shreveport, La., always thought it was odd her brother was going to the house since he was divorcing his wife, JoAnn Hicks.
