When a situation becomes someone’s worst nightmare, police intervene, even if what bedevils them is their own life.

“It’s amazing how many families are affected by suicide and attempted suicide in Bowie County,” said Chief Deputy Larry Parker. “I was surprised by the number.”

Since the beginning of 2008, there have been eight suicides investigated by the county and dozens of interventions by the BCSD during attempted suicides.

“We have had a run of them lately,” said Parker.
