NEW BOSTON, Texas—Texas Health and Human Services Commission officials will hold a meeting at 10 a.m. July 31 at the Bowie County Courthouse focusing on a statewide marriage license fee increase.

Starting Sept. 1, marriage license fees will increase form $30 to $60.

However, a new state law allows couples seeking a license to forego the new fee as well as waive the 72-hour waiting period.

To do so, they must take an eight-hour, pre-marital education course, which the commission plans to make available in each county after Sept. 1.
