The man who escaped work release custody Saturday has been sent to the Tucker Penitentiary, a maximum security prison, police said.

Joe Dean Keaton, 31, was arrested by Texarkana, Ark., police about 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

He allegedly went on a robbery spree before battling an officer for his service weapon, according to reports.

He was held at the Bi-State Justice Building on three counts of aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, fleeing and escape from a correctional facility, second decree, said Lt. Doug Avery, TAPD spokesman.
