Inmate says he escaped to visit his ailing grandmother

The last of the Miller County jail escapees to be apprehended appeared Tuesday afternoon before a circuit judge.

Prior to his court appearance, Bennie Ray “Juice” Johnson, explained his escape was a spur of the moment decision.

“That was a golden opportunity for me,” said 23-year-old Johnson while waiting for his turn before Circuit Judge Jim Hudson. “I didn’t know till that night. It was a last minute thing for me.”
