Firefighters foam chicken fat blaze

A chicken fat fire Wednesday morning in Sevier County proved to be hard to put out.

The fire, inside a 18-wheeler trailer, had to be extinguished by foam instead of water to keep it from spreading to other bundles of chicken fat, said De Queen Fire Marshal Dennis Pruitt.

To make matters worse, the burning chicken fat began turning into grease, creating an odoriferous smell as firefighters arrived.

Pruitt gave three descriptions of the odor created by the chicken fat fire.
