Texarkana Independent School District hopes to make campuses safer this year with the installation of higher security doors.

“It’s just a safely feature that we’ve put in place district wide,” Superintendent James Henry Russell said.

He said the safety measures are not in response to any new legislation, but simply the district’s effort to make their schools safer.

“I think TISD, if you look at our history ... we’re very proactive. It’s just totally a preventative measure,” Russell said.
