The Texarkana, Texas, City Council named Texarkana College employee Scott Norton as its newest member Monday night, in a unanimous vote.

The council appointed Norton to fill the remainder of Mayor Steve Mayo’s term, following his May election. Mayo represented the Ward 5 area before being elected as mayor.

Five applicants tried for the Ward 5 spot, and the council voted Monday between finalists Norton and attorney Jim Cook.
