The pets of the week are Sadie, a spayed female chow mix described as a very sweet puppy who walks well on a leash, and Baby, a tri-colored tabby who has nursed and saved four litters of kittens. Shelter officials say Baby is a “very special cat.”

The Texarkana Animal Shelter has 65 dogs, one puppy, 33 cats and 31 kittens for adoption, said a shelter official. There were 16 adoptions in the past week.

The fee to adopt dogs is $40. Cats can be adopted $20 each. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the shelter, 203 Harrison St. All animals have been worm...
