Couple work to put an end to homelessness

Helping the homeless realize they are important is just one of the things the group does on its mission trek around the country. Pacific said she became homeless after she left her abusive husband. She has been living on the streets for about five years and sleeps under bridges and in tents on the outskirts of the city.
Native Texarkanian Chad Matthews once had a limited knowledge of the homeless.

“Growing up, I always had heard about homeless people. A vast majority of what I heard was completely negative, like ‘They are to blame for whatever happened to them. Don’t give them any money. Don’t give them rides. They are homeless because they gambled too much. Drank too much. Went to jail too often.’ The list goes on and on,” said Matthews. “You’ve probably heard the same things. Somehow people who live on the street aren’t even really considered people, are they?”
