NEW BOSTON, Texas — After finding William Howard Nelson guilty Wednesday of beating his former girlfriend with a brick and crutch, a jury of 12 Bowie County citizens sentenced him to 30 years in a Texas prison.

“I loved him but I wasn’t going to just sit there and let him beat me to death,” victim Shakira Driver said through her tears.
