Wells Fargo & Co. announced an agreement Wednesday to acquire Century Bank through a stock-for-stock merger, according to both banking companies.

Pending regulatory and shareholder approval, the Minneapolis-based Wells Fargo will acquire Century Bancshares, the holding company for Century Bank and its 32 bank branches in Texas and Arkansas.

Century Bank has 10 Texarkana locations with other local offices in Atlanta and New Boston, Texas, and Ashdown, Ark. Century Bank has also grown rapidly in recent years with new branches in the Dallas area.
