Fouke council frustrated over rampant vandalismLights, stop signs, welcome sign, cemetery targeted
Staff photo by Jim Williamson Vandalism and rust has created a change in a street sign in Fouke from Virginia to Virgin Street. In the last three months, Fouke has had a rash of vandalism to street signs, stop signs, the welcome sign and a cemetery. The graffiti painted on signs was described by Fouke Mayor Terry Purvis as the work of the “Fouke Michelangelo.” Michelangelo was a 16th century Italian renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, poet and engineer. One street sign now reads “Virgin Street.” The actual street is Virginia, but with paint, the letters “i” and “a” were darkened creating the word “Virgin.” “I guess we have a Michelangelo of Fouke painting graffiti,” said Purvi...
