Hearing footsteps on the roof of the Miller County jail early Sunday alerted jailers that someone was probably attempting to escape.

But before jailers could locate an escape route, the prisoner was back inside the jail, said Miller County Sheriff Linda Rambo.

No one escaped from the jail, she said.

About 3 a.m. Sunday jailers heard “footsteps on the roof.”

“All of a sudden the footsteps stopped,” said Rambo.

A hole in the ceiling was located, but the prisoner apparently returned to the jail cell, she said.
