The National League of Junior Cotillions, Texarkana Chapter named two local elementary teachers as the 2008 Best Mannered Teacher of the Year.

Charlotte Fuller, who teaches at Genoa Central, and Leah Poe, who teaches at Pleasant Grove, were nominated by students Lydia Walker and Kailey Carr respectively. Each wrote an essay about a teacher in their school. The criteria for selection included positive characteristics, how the teacher shows courtesy and respect for students, and why the person is a good role model.
