Mural going up to honor Hope education pioneer

A mural will be dedicated honoring Henry C. Yerger, who established the first school for blacks west of the Mississippi River in the late 1800s and continued providing education facilities in Hope, Ark., into the early 1900s.

The Southwest Arkansas Arts Council and Hope Public Schools will dedicate a mural commemorating Yerger at 1 p.m. Friday in the Yerger Middle School cafeteria.
