Pay increase expense lowered

Chief trims nearly $200,000 from estimate; Arkansas side says parity more realistic now

After announcing plans to increase pay for police, Texarkana, Texas, officials have reworked the numbers and dropped the estimated expense by almost $200,000.

City officals first discussed, in a budget workshop, an across-the-board pay increase for police, estimating a cost of $380,000. But Police Chief Dan Shiner reviewed vacancies in the department and presented a proposal that reduces the expense to $183,000.
