The capital murder trial of Calvin Bennett is set to begin Dec. 15, 9th Circuit Judge Charles Yeargan said Wednesday.

Bennett, 28, is accused of the shooting deaths of Pierce “Ben” Odell, 79, and Mary Odell, 78, of Nashville, Ark., on Oct. 30, 2006. The prosecution is seeking the death penalty.

Bennett stood at a podium Wednesday in the courtroom of Howard County Courthouse facing Yeargan while public defender Tammy Harris patted and rubbed his back. It took Yeargan about two minutes to give the dates for legal motions, the jury selection dates and the actual trial date...
