Residents will have two chances to weigh in on a proposed property tax increase in Texarkana, Texas.

Public hearings are scheduled for Sept. 11 and Sept. 15 to allow comments on a 6-cent property tax raise.

The current rate is .5265 cents per $100 valuation of property. The new rate, if approved by the City Council, will be .5831.

On a home valued at $50,000, property taxes under the new rate will be $291.55 annually. The taxes on a home valued at $100,000 would be $583.10.

The last increase was in 2005, when taxes jumped up more than 11 cents. ...
