Panel OKs date to accept tax rate

NEW BOSTON, Texas—Running into no opposition during a public hearing on Bowie County’s tax rate Monday, the Commissioners Court closed the hearing and moved on to budget planning for next fiscal year.

The court agreed to set 10 a.m. Sept. 22 as the date to officially accept the county’s current real property tax rate, which remains at about 31 cents per $100 valuation.

During that same date, commissioners also plan to hold a public hearing on the county’s proposed 2008-09 budget.
