Utility bill could go up 25 percent

Texarkana, Texas, residents may soon be doling about $8 more each month for water and sewer services.

The City Council is considering increasing water rates by 15 percent and sewer rates by 10 percent.

In addition to that, the Consumer Price Index adjustment in January offsets inflation costs and is expected to be about 4 percent.

That would take the average water and sewer charges from $49 to about $57 a month. But compared to similar-sized cities in Texas, Texarkana’s rates are still behind the curve.
