City hotels booked up in anticipation of Hurricane Ike

Texarkana hotels are booked to capacity in advance of Hurricane Ike, which looks like it’s headed for south-central Texas around Matagorda Island.

“People have started making reservations and getting out of town,” said Micki Wright, Texarkana Chamber of Commerce tourism director.

Port Arthur, Texarkana’s sister city in the state’s point-to-point preparedness plan, doesn’t look like it will need to evacuate, but other areas of the state will as Ike is expected to make landfall Friday or Saturday as a Category 4 storm.
