A late-morning downpour didn’t douse efforts by local veterans to replace a tattered U.S. flag and POW/MIA flag Tuesday at the Texarkana Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic.

“We didn’t stop fighting a war during monsoon season in Vietnam and we aren’t going to let some rain stop us today,” said Ernest King, local Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 278 vice president.

Braving the late summer shower, King and VVA senior assistant Freddy Weathers lowered the worn flags and replaced them with a new set donated by the Texarkana, Ark., Elks Lodge 399.
