Gas hike fear sends drivers rushing to fill up at area stations

Drivers waited in lines six or more cars deep Friday to get gasoline at area gas stations for fear prices would rise sharply or gas would run out completely as a result of Hurricane Ike.

“People are in a panic,” said CSR’s Michael Brosius who was filling up a large tank for his employer at the Arkansas-side Wal-Mart.

But it appears much of that panic may be inflated by rumors.

While some say they’ve heard gas was reaching $5 a gallon in some parts, no evidence was found Friday afternoon to support those claims.
