Sister-city residents take shelter from Ike

For the second time in less than a month, Texarkana has become a temporary home to Port Arthur residents who evacuated in front of Hurricane Ike.

Evacuees were bused out of Port Arthur Wednesday as part of an emergency evacuation after Ike wobbled a bit changing his path. Port Arthur is Texarkana’s sister city in the state’s point-to-point preparedness program meaning the city provides shelters for special needs people from Port Arthur including those without transportation or health problems.
