As a Red Cross chaplain, Lynn McMasters had to help in the recovery of New York after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

After traveling 48 hours from Texas to New York, she soon found herself tested by questions from people who were emotionally scarred and physically drained.

McMasters was riding a subway during a break, and helping console families and friends of victims who died when the two airplanes crashed into the twin towers.
