Fair mostly escapes Ike’s wrathStrong winds damaged tents and tie-downs, knocked out some power

Tropical Storm Ike’s strong winds damaged several temporary structures at the fairgrounds. With opening day of the fair being the same as the ever-anticipated Texas High versus Arkansas High football game on Friday and the tropical storm Saturday, the fair seemed to be off to a rough start. “There was a light crowd Friday but I believe that was a result of weather more so than the football game,” said Dwight Duncan, fair director.
