Fair mostly escapes Ike’s wrath

Strong winds damaged tents and tie-downs, knocked out some power

The aftermath of Ike proved destructive but not to the spirit of the Four States Fair & Rodeo.

With opening day of the fair being the same as the ever-anticipated Texas High versus Arkansas High football game on Friday and the tropical storm Saturday, the fair seemed to be off to a rough start.

“There was a light crowd Friday but I believe that was a result of weather more so than the football game,” said Dwight Duncan, fair director.

The demolition derby was the only event not canceled or rescheduled Saturday.
