Nash panel to meet Sept.22

With no Nash residents present to offer input on the city’s proposed real property tax rate, the City Council closed its final public hearing Monday.

The council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 22 to vote on the proposed tax rate increase, from 32 cents to 36 cents per $100 valuation.

They are also expected to approve the city’s budget for fiscal year 2008-09.

Fifteen years ago, Nash’s tax rate was 44 cents per $100 valuation. Between 1996 and 1998, the council managed to get the tax rate dropped to 28 cents per $100 valuation.
