Power coming back

Although great strides have been made to return power to area customers, there are still quite a few without power following the passage of Tropical Storm Ike.

As of presstime Monday, the number of people without power had been decreased to just shy of 24,000 from 40,000 Sunday throughout the AEP/SWEPCO, Bowie-Cass and Southwest Arkansas REA power grids.

“I want to commend (SWEPCO) ... they worked into the night and did a great job getting the (transmission) back up,” said Barron Christensen, general manager for Bowie-Cass.
