After Ike: Evacuees could go home next week

Port Arthur evacuees taking shelter in Texarkana may be able to go home next week.

“The last information we had today was that they anticipate all the power being back up by Tuesday,” Dave Hall, Texarkana Emergency Management director, said Wednesday. “We’re working on a re-entry plan for those folks. We’ll try to coordinate with Port Arthur as soon as the electricity comes up to get these folks back to their homes.”

Approximately 1,100 evacuees are staying in about 20 Red Cross shelters set up in local churches and at the Salvation Army.
