A heroic deed by Greg Fett of Texarkana, Ark., gained him an honor from The Animal Welfare Institute in Washington, D.C.

On Tuesday, Fett was given the Albert Schweitzer Award for outstanding achievement in the advancement of animal welfare.

The award is in recognition of actions Fett took in April when he detained the driver of a livestock trailer at his tire shop while awaiting authorities to seize the 11 malnourished horses being transported.

“It was pure animal cruelty and I wasn’t about to let it pass me by,” Fett said.
