Farewell, evacuees

Buses pull out carrying storm-tossed Texans home

After spending another mandatory “vacation” in Texarkana, Port Arthur, Texas, residents began their trek home early Sunday morning.

Buses began arriving at the Southwest Center about 7:45 a.m. Sunday where they were given their passenger manifests and led by police escort to their shelter destination. By 9 a.m., all buses had been sent and were well on their way to being loaded for the return trip home.

“If it runs as smoothly at the shelters as it has here, there will be no problems,” said Dave Hall, Emergency Management coordinator for Texarkana.
