‘Bridge jumper’ friend pleads guilty

A man who told authorities a friend disappeared beneath the waters of the Red River last year as part of a ruse pleaded guilty Monday before a Miller County judge.

James Hoss was sentenced to serve 60 days in the county jail and 120 days of house arrest as a condition of a five-year probation assessed him by Miller County Circuit Judge Jim Hudson for hindering apprehension or prosecution. Hoss had told authorities that Jody Cook had jumped from a bridge into the Red River and never resurfaced.
