Nash council raises rate on propery tax

For the first time in five years, the Nash City Council has raised the municipal real property tax rate.

During their meeting Monday, council members agreed to raise the rate by 4 cents—from its current 32 cents per $100 valuation to 36 cents.

The 4-cent increase is expected to help the city pay for a 5 percent across-the-board municipal employee pay raise for next fiscal year. It will also help pay for the current increase in fuel costs, as well as other supplies for the 2008-09 fiscal year, said Nash City Administrator Elizabeth Lea.
