Sears and other companies in the lawn mower business allegedly conspired for years to mislead the public about how powerful the engines are in their products, according to a lawsuit filed in federal court last week.

The suit alleges the companies routinely misrepresented the amount of horsepower a lawn mower has. Sears, Deere & Co., Briggs & Stratton Corp., Kawasaki Motors Corp., American Honda Motor Co., Electrolux Home Products and others have been named as defendants in the class-action complaint filed Sept. 10.
